Rein, a professional engineer, registered with the ECSA, has in excess of 30 years experience within the mining industry in the capacity of senior management, mining engineering and consulting and project management.
Prior to joining RSV, Rein’s mining career commenced in July 1979 and he progressed to senior management level during 1981, overseeing mining operations and culminating as General Manager of a large chrome mining operation with Samancor, BHP Billiton, for a period of six years. He also spent a year in the Samancor Head Office as Manager Strategic Projects
Rein joined RSV as a senior mining consultant and has progressed from Project Manager to Project Principal, Project Director and currently Chief Operating Officer for the Platinum and Base Metals Portfolio of projects.
During his time at RSV he has been involved in numerous mine design projects, project reviews, feasibility studies, study reviews, Competent Persons Reports and has managed the K4 Project valued at R2 Billion.
As Chief Operating Officer, Rein's portfolio consisted of some 25 projects, during various stages of the project’s life cycles; Pre-feasibility and Feasibility Studies, Detailed Design and Project Management and Design (PM&D), including Construction Management with a value of circa R36 Billion.
Currently, he is in charge of Read, Swatman & Voigt (SA) (Pty) Limited. This is RSV’s Black empowered Project Management and Consulting Engineering Company specialising in mining (underground and surface), industrial engineering and built environment.
Rein holds a Masters Degree of Business Leadership (MBL) from the University of South Africa and a B.Sc Engineering (Mining) degree from the University of the Witwatersrand. He is a Project Management Professional (PMP) issued by the Institute of Project Management (USA). He is a member of the Engineering Council of South Africa and the Project Management Institute of South Africa, Associate member of the Association of Mine Managers of South Africa and a Fellow of the Southern African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy.
