Sarel Robbertse: Project Controls Manager

Sarel Robbertse is the Group Project Controls Manager for RSV and has gained 39 years of experience in the mining industry, both locally and internationally. His responsibilities in the Project Support environment includes Planning and Scheduling, Cost Control, Quality Control, Procurement and Document Management as main areas of focus. He obtained Project Management Professional (PMP) Certificate in May 2012.

Sarel started his career at Anglo America’s Vaal Reefs Gold Mines and served the company for nine years from 1984 to 1989 in various roles as an Electrical Artisan, Foreman Electrical, Project Planner, Senior Project Planner and Project Services Coordinator. He participated in the following mining projects during his career at Anglo American Vaal Reefs No 10 Shaft (Tau Lekoa) and Vaal Reefs No 11 Shaft (Moab Khotsong).

He also participated in the Palabora Underground Mine Project Lift I for seven years as Project Planner, EC&I Design Services Manager and Commissioning Manager.

His career at RSV commenced in 2003 in the role of Project Services Coordinator and he participated in numerous mining projects from Mar 2003 to Dec 2006 i.e. Anglo Platinum Rustenburg UG2 Expansion Phase II Project, Anglo Platinum Bafokeng Rasimone Expansion Phase II Project, Anglo Platinum Styldrift Joint venture Pre-feasibility Study.

Next followed a secondment to RSV USA in Arizona as Project Services Manager  on the   Resolution Copper Mine in Superior, Arizona, a Rio Tinto/BHP Billiton joint venture. Sarel then returned to South Africa and engaged in several mining projects in his role as RSV Group Project Services Manager i.e. Anglo Platinum Bathopele Phase V Project, Palabora Mining Company Lift II Project, Oyu Tolgoi No 2, 3, 4 and 5 Projects, Western Areas Odusseus Shaft Project, Newmont Gold Tanami TE2 Headframe Project, Glencore Thorncliffe Reduction Plant Project, Sibanye Marikana K4 Project and Two Rivers/ARM TRP Project, amongst others.
